Best friends and business partners Harmony-Dawn and Kharma

created Urban Ocean to encourage, educate and empower you on and off the water.

Passionate About Inspiring others Harmony grew up in and on the water with her love of the outdoor beach lifestyle leading her to start a business in 2009.

As a multi-certified instructor, Harmony has spent the last 10 years traveling internationally to teach instructor certifications, lead retreats and compete as a stand up paddle athlete in some of the world's largest sup races.

As the founder of Ottawa's first stand up paddle company, Urban Ocean SUP Ottawa and the Valley, Harmony has passionately put Canada's Capital on the Stand Up paddle map, leading the way in Eastern Canada with classes offered year round from the Ottawa River to the cities warmest pool.

Now living in the Unites States, Harmony has teamed up with her husband legendary Whitewater Pioneer, Dan Gavere, to create SUP Adventures in Florida, Oregon, and Maui.

Harmony uses breath work not only to help find stability on the ripples the paddle board creates when moving thru her yoga practice, but also to help focus as she takes her board down whitewater rapids.  Her classes will challenge and inspire both the first time and experience alike.

From a young age, Kharma, could be found swimming in the backyard pond of their Ottawa Valley home or exploring the options of playing with new friends such as lizards and porcupines!

When Harmony began stand up paddling in 2009 there was no keeping this adventurous water lover on the beach, despite trying to leave her there to babysit the kitten she had befriended.  Instead Kharma taught Monster ( the kitten) to be a paddle cat.

These two fur friends enjoyed their time on the water so much they once played with a faucet and then sat on the couch and watched as the water rose around them flooding the basement over night!

While an accident left Kharma with a physical disability her strong spirit and determination had her bounding with joy at the opportunity to paddle,  often letting herself out of the house to go for a swim with the dolphins at their Florida home and having Harmony and her husband paddling out after her.

Kharma was known to get her way, from which board she rode to insisting she get to go on the whitewater rapids too. She was inspiring with her friendly puppy like personality on the beach to her big smile as she laid on a board dangling her paws in the water.

We all paddle for a reason: to find clarity, to find our power, to find the best version of ourselves. We paddle to feel strong in our bodies, our heads, and our hearts. We paddle to connect to our community, and we paddle to find the fun in the everyday. We paddle because the feeling we have when we're done can't be measured on a scale.

This is more than a workout.  This is a lifestyle.

Our team of certified instructors provide quality Stand Up Paddle Education with emphasis on safety, technique, and fun! We offer Ottawa and the Valley a variety of specialty experiences including SUP 101, SUP Fitness and Yoga, SUP Racing, Whitewater SUP and Instructor Certification courses.

We appreciate each individual's unique capabilities and strive to give each person the attention they deserve. We foster self-confidence, community spirit and an active, healthy lifestyle for our clients.

Outdoor lover, Colleen grew up riding horses, & competing on the show circuit. When not at the barn on her days off you find her on the water. A natural the first time she picked up a paddle, she enjoys any time she is able to further her paddling skills by taking advantage of any opportunity to learn from a visiting SUP athlete.
SUP Instructor Colleen teaches SUP kids.
Yoga and Fitness Instructor Anastasia joined us after Harmony went to one of her land classes and was impressed with her seemingly endless energy while doing an abs sequence that leaves the rest of us breathless! Stacey's classes are fun and challenging.
RMT by day, Karate Student by night. During her free time we are lucky to have her sharing her passion teaching SUP Yoga and Fitness class in the pool.
Competitive horsewoman Deb came out to try a new sport, despite falling in a few times her first try ( it's nothing like falling off a horse) and she was hooked. This hardworking animal lover inspires us with her early morning barn life, and business skills. She can be found paddling year round with the SUP pool fitness classes, socials and women's programs.
This gorgeous government analyst can also be found walking the catwalk as a model. Her enthusiastic ready to learn personality quickly made her part of our team in 2017. She is currently on maternity leave, expect to see her and Baby on the Ottawa River this summer.
Energetic Kaylah took a class in 2012 and was instantly hooked, attending classes a couple times a week she became inspired to do her a SUP and Yoga certifications and a year later began teaching.
Our youngest ambassador joined us on the water in 2015 for our after school kids program. Her enthusiasm for paddling, helping others and playing with SUP Pup Kharma, brings smiles to many faces.
