This 2.5 day training teaches you the tools to lead a class safely and effectively.  

Certification upon completion.

  • What makes a good SUP instructor- ability to asses students (options and limitations)

200-Hour Yoga Teacher training or currently enrolled in YTT OR certified personal trainer.
First-Aid and CPR certified (or at least registered for a class before the training begins) 

Course price is $895  includes WPA level 1 certification upon completion

Paddle Canada can be obtained for registered Paddle Canada Members

Payment can be made by credit card or e-transfer.

A non-refundable $300 deposit is required to confirm your space on this course.

The balance is due three weeks prior to the course.

SUP Instructor Certification

 WPA Certification 1 Day $350



  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Candidates must be up -to- date on First Aid and CPR Certification

  • Instructor candidates should have prior experience and knowledge coming into the workshop

  • In order to pass this course, WPA Instructor Candidates must be able to demonstrate skills, knowledge and teaching ability to pass at this level

In this course you will be assessed in the following areas:

  • Personal Paddling Skills

  • Board/Equipment Considerations

  • Risk Management

  • Water Dynamics & Boating Laws

  • Rescue Techniques

  • Water safety information                                                                                                                     

WSUPA Certification 1 Day $395

This certification is for experienced paddlers who want to become an instructor.

You will have to teach to the rest of the group some techniques and maneuvers, which will have been assigned beforehand to each participant, such as launching and paddle technique and turning strokes.  You will learn class management, SUP Safety, equipment specifics.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     

Paddle Canada Basic & Advanced Flatwater SUP Instructor Certification 2 day $525


This training is for people who want to become an instructor on flat water and who have a strong technical background. You will learn the history of SUP, the welcoming of a group, the equipment, the educational progress, the basic techniques, and some more advanced skills. You will have to teach to the rest of the group some techniques and maneuvers, which will have been assigned beforehand to each participant, such as launching and paddle techniques in windy and wavy conditions, different foot positions, pivot turns, braces, power strokes, cross draws, and draw strokes.

Certification: Following the completion of this training, you will receive your Paddle Canada instructor certificate: “Advanced Flat Water SUP Instructor”. *The obtainment of the certificate can depend on the training’s success.

Prerequisites: Have a solid base of SUP practice and have a passion for teaching as well as having or being in the process of having a recognized up-to-date 16 hours First Aid and CPR training.
